We are all getting older
I love seeing the kids in our office grow up. They start out as infants and are now 6, 8 or even 10 years old. Or they first come in at 10 years old and are now getting ready to go to college. Or they start as teenagers and are now married, starting a family. It’s so cool to see them all grow up. At the same time, I hate seeing me “grow up”. No one is immune to aging, it happens to all of us as we are all growing up, yet it’s just so much more fun when you are young.
In February I “celebrated” my birthday, something that I pretty much kept hidden from most people. I’m not a huge fan of celebrating my birthday and now that I’m getting older, I really want to ignore them. I’m at the point where I can see myself getting older – more grey hair, a few more wrinkles here and there, a little more achy in the morning ….. you know, all those excuses. And I don’t like it. Not at all.
I mean it’s inevitable; it’s going to happen, I’m just not crazy about it. At the same time, I feel great. I don’t look my age, I’m very active, I’m running 20-30 miles a week and want to be running well into my later years. I also see many people younger than me, who are just not healthy. There’s a great saying “if you don’t take care of your body, where are you going to live when you get older?” and that is so true. Yes you can get hip & knee replacements, and even a new heart or liver, but that’s not always a perfect answer. Your best bet is to take care of yourself now.
My best recommendations are: get checked & adjusted at least every other week; exercise at least 20-30 minutes a day five days a week; avoid processed foods that are filled with bad ingredients; eat fruits, vegetables, meat, beans – all the healthy stuff; drink pure water every day; get plenty of sleep; and avoid as many medications as possible. It’s not that hard, it just takes a commitment. Inactivity leads to problems. Making bad food choices leads to illness. Not getting chiropractic adjustments leads to a poorly functioning body. Take care of yourself, teach your children to take care of themselves. It is much more fun to be healthy than sick, and to age gracefully.
So where will you be in 20 years? What will your body be like? Think about joining us at our next Pathways Connect meeting, where we talk a little bit about raising healthy children as well as natural ways to take care of our bodies. In March, we’ll talk about spring allergies, skin care, and ultrasounds. Join us if you can.
