The Webster Technique & teaching
I didn’t go out and ask for this, I didn’t apply for any job, I basically was asked to step in and help, and then that turned into taking it over (however on a sad). Thus I’ve spent the past 3-4 months preparing, reading, studying, researching, documenting, creating, and practicing for “the big day.” Well the big day was really two big days, and then it happened again. Two additional days. And there will be more. And I’m loving it! If you told me five years ago that I would be doing this, I would have said, nah, no interest, but goodness I was wrong. Do you know what I’m talking about? It’s the teaching I am now doing for the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (don’t worry, it’s only a weekend thing! 🙂 ).
I traveled and taught two weekends in February, including to San Francisco and then Minneapolis. The California trip was really in Hayward, at Life Chiropractic College West and it was such an emotional weekend. It was pretty rough due to 13-hours of teaching in two days, combined with a three-hour time change, and then the reason I was there is because a dear mentor of mine & friend passed away, so it was a huge “gulp” to step in and teach for her. All those things combined made it a difficult weekend, but we got though. And the reviews from the class were positive, yet all I could think about were the things I wanted to do better and improve on. So, I fixed up the presentation a bit, and flew to Minneapolis and did it again. And now I’m thinking of even more things to do, to make it an even better presentation! Yikes is this what people do when they speak a lot????
The class is Perinatal Care with Webster Technique certification, and I’m basically teaching other chiropractors about taking care of women throughout pregnancy, along with teaching (& testing) the Webster Technique. We had more than 100 people in each class, and there are already more than 110 registered for the next weekend at the end of March (in Austin, TX). So, it’s kind of cool to think you are helping just that many more people, especially if these chiropractors go out in their community and help women even more. And that’s a neat thing.
One thing I’ve really liked about this, is I feel it has made me a better chiropractor. I’ve had to study up and learn/improve on new things, and that has made me better. And that’s really cool!! Over the next 5 months I’ll be away 7 weekends as I teach and Dr. Michelle & Dr. Sherri will continue to fill in while I’m gone. And that I’m grateful for. And for Jeanne, well I know she’s up there looking down on me & everyone else, and I hope I’m making her proud.
