National Coffee Day
I heard yesterday (Sun. 9/29) was National Coffee Day, and while I haven’t yet checked on the validity of that, I think it was a pretty good day to be drinking coffee. Not that I didn’t have a good reason (since I did), but I’ve been on quite the coffee kick lately and I am wanting to cut back and/or decrease my coffee intake. Yesterday didn’t help matters much, as it was one of those crazy days where I had several things going on and didn’t want to pass anything up. I needed a way to stay awake late into the night.
It started about six weeks ago when I bought tickets to the Braves game. I love going to the Braves and really wanted to bring my son, as he has fun doing “the chop” and running the bases. Soon after that, I signed up for a half marathon on the same day, not realizing I had tickets to the game. Then a few weeks later, I realized the Patriots were in town against the Falcons for Sunday night football. The thought of sitting on my couch watching the game was great, until someone offered me tickets. How could I pass that up? The chance to see Tom Brady & team here, live in person?
Once realizing the overscheduling of my day, I chose not to do the race and opted for a bike ride instead, where I could be home early enough to do a few things before rushing to the game. Three cups of coffee later (yikes!), I was wide-awake and off to the Braves we went. If you live here you know it was a beautiful, sunny, 70-degree day and the Braves were on fire. We left at the end of the 6th inning, as by then the score was 10-4 and we had done our fair share of “the chop”. Normally I don’t like to leave games early, but I had to bring my son home since I was taking a friend of mine to the football game. After a quick shower and putting on my New England Patriots shirt, I was back in the car headed downtown.
I was just too excited to be tired. I felt like a child on Christmas morning. This was my 3rd professional football game I had ever been to. The first was a Patriots game about 30 years ago. The 2nd was a Falcons game about 15 years ago. So I was certainly due to go. We had great seats (thanks so much L.T!!) and my friend Shirley is a huge fan as well, so we had fun cheering on our team, staying until the end (Patriots won 30-23) and even hanging out a little after the end of the game. By the time I got home it was 1:00am and my day was finally done.
So yes, I had three cups of coffee on National Coffee Day. I mean I figure I had to celebrate it, right? Today has been a few more to keep me going, but tomorrow I’ll be back on my “cutting out coffee” goal. I like to blame it on the Keurig, once I got one last year I have learned it is SO easy to make coffee. However, I need to cut it out or cut back on it. I just don’t like the habit. So by putting this out there on the blog, maybe others will help hold me accountable and I’ll go back to drinking it just once a week, instead of everyday. That is…unless a day like yesterday comes around. Until then, I’ll cut back, switch to tea and put that Keurig in the basement.
