Fever in my son
Last week my son had a fever, not something that happens often in our household (maybe his 3rd in 5+ years). I never took his temperature, just felt his head/body and he was pretty warm. He got adjusted, I applied some Peppermint Oil on the back of his neck, and by the next day the fever was gone. However he wasn’t acting normal and said he didn’t feel good, so we kept him home from school. By nighttime, his fever was much higher and he was pretty miserable. Again, he got adjusted and we just watched over him carefully. It’s never easy being a mom and seeing your child suffer like that, knowing he was uncomfortable. However he broke the fever in the middle of the night and was much better the next day.
I am not a huge fan of taking medications to bring down a fever, and will share another blog with you why. This woman explains it well. If you have questions about it, ask me. Of course, I’d like her to add chiropractic adjustments to that list of what to do when your child gets a fever. I know it helps.
Simply put, the fever is the body’s natural defense mechanism. I’m not even sure that applying Peppermint Oil was a good idea, as it got the fever to go away temporarily, but then it came back even worse the next day. I think my son is lucky that I’m a chiropractor, as the adjustment surely helped his immune system so he could fight that fever on his own.
