Career change and lifetime wellness care
There are so many things I love about being a chiropractor (and a few I don’t), and one of the best things is being able to create the office and environment you want. There are many people who come into our office everyday who hate their job & complain about their commute. I understand, I get it; I was once there too. I worked in the corporate world for eight years prior to changing careers. I had a 30-minute commute, I wore suits, dresses and high heels every day (shocking I know), I traveled, I met & worked with all sorts of professional athletes, I went to numerous high profile sporting events and I received all sorts of sporting goods equipment & clothing. But eventually I got tired of it. I wasn’t helping anyone and I didn’t feel like I was making much of a difference. I finally realized I didn’t want that career, so I took the leap, quit my job and went back to school. Zoom ahead almost 18 years, and here I am in a job that I love, wearing clothes that I want to wear, having a short commute, and making a difference in the lives of people. It’s pretty cool.
I tell new patients that you can go to five different chiropractors, and have five totally different experiences. It all depends on the style of the doctor, what technique they use and what kind of patient they want to see. I have some chiropractor friends who only want to see patients who are in extreme pain. I have other friends do not like to take care of kids or pregnant women. Yet that’s my thing, I love it. The best part of it, is seeing these kids grow up and become teenagers/adults. I’m at that point in my practice where kids I’ve been adjusting since birth are now teenagers; or those I’ve been adjusting since they were toddlers are now driving; or those I’ve been adjusting since they were in elementary school are now in college. And within the next 5-10 years, I imagine some of them will be getting married and having kids (hopefully not too soon, and hopefully they will get their own kids adjusted!). And many of these little kids are now taller than me.
And as we stated here (click to see photo), “It’s genuinely humbling when families continue to choose our office for their lifetime wellness & care. We believe that continued chiropractic care when paired with exercise & healthy nutrition truly can transform both big and little lives. We love our chiropractic families and are honored to serve them year after year.”
And for those of you who have read this far and are curious, after college at UMass I did a 6-month internship with the National Basketball Association in NYC, then spent five years working for Spalding Sports Worldwide in Chicopee, Mass. (promoting their products and athletes), then worked for Apex One in NJ (with a lot of NFL & college teams), and then worked for two different marketing agencies in NJ. It was a fun time, but I’m much happier now!
For those of you who may feel you are “stuck” in your career … is there something else you could do? Is it possible to make a change? Never say never, realize that change can happen, yet like any other change, it comes from within. If you believe in it, it can happen.
