Exercise for stress relief
Lately these blogs have been just so hard to write. I typically write about some personal experience and relate it to health or positivity, but I’m having a hard time finding some personal events to discuss. It’s been 10 weeks of this craziness, right? Yea, sheltering at home maybe was “nice” for the first two weeks, people crossed things off their to-do list, spent more time together & relaxed a bit more. For me, organizing my son’s school room, cleaning the basement, painting the mailbox, steam cleaning the carpets, and cleaning our home air conditioner condensing unit were big events in my life.
Aside from that, I’ve been trying to get outside as much as possible. Going for hikes. Going for walks. Even a few open water swims and bike rides. And I’m certainly still running. What about you? Are you exercising? Are you picking up a new sport or activity? Exercise during these stressful times can be so good for your mind, and for your body (well exercise is good all the time, especially now). Working out 30-minutes a day is really the minimum you need, and with people working from home (with no commute), that extra time is there, so I’m hoping you are filling it wisely. There are multiple workouts online these days, you can find anything you want. Fitness Centers are posting their classes online, and many other online classes have offered discounts. Running races are now virtual. The options are there. Please look for them and find something you like.
One thing that’s pretty simple to do, meaning, no equipment & you can do it in your living room, is yoga. It’s great for relaxation and strength, depending on what poses you perform. I like to do yoga after my running, and often on days just as a workout in itself. Now I don’t have perfect or ideal form, some of the moves are hard for me, yet they still can be done. And it’s not always easy, yet can be a great way to build core and upper body strength.
Are you looking for some stretches and yoga moves? Have you checked out our new app? Download the app, as on there are some really neat exercises for the body, brain, babies & pregnant women. It’s a great start.
Walking, hiking, running & yoga may be your best bets these days. You don’t need a gym, you don’t need special equipment, and all can give you a good mental release. I know I’m feeling extra stress and my workouts are so important in helping me feel better, and I encourage you all to do the same.
Times are crazy, and we have no idea where things are headed, so take some time to do things for yourself. Exercise regularly, make sure you are eating as healthy as possible, getting adjusted, getting good sleep, and letting your body be as strong as possible.
