My latest challenge (accomplished!)
I’m the kind of person that like a challenge, or at least always has a goal in front of me, something I’m aiming for, trying to achieve, or whatever it may be. I think it’s just an easy way for me to stay focused while always trying to improve myself. If I don’t really have any goals, I tend to just go along day by day which at times is really great and relaxing, but for the most part, I like to have something I’m aiming toward.
So late in 2018, I finally took the plunge to get the next higher level certification from the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association). It was something I had wanted to do for a long time, but I just kept putting it off because other things took precedence, but finally I moved it up on the priority list and got it done. In June, I was awarded the designation DACCP — the Diplomate from the Academy Council of Chiropractic Pediatrics. It is the ICPA’s 400-hour Diplomate Program for advanced pediatric and prenatal care. It wasn’t necessarily difficult, as the requirements were a bunch of things that I was already doing in my office (or had already done), I just had to prove it and document it and get it all completed. So now it’s complete and I’ve earned a few more letters that I can put after my name.
(Speaking of which, how important is that? Do people pay attention or even know what it means? Let’s see….if I use all the educational certifications that I have, my name would read Pamela Stone, BS, DC, FICPA, CACCP, DACCP, CAVCA, CIVCA. Well that’s a bit ridiculous, so I’ll just stick with the DACCP one).
As for pediatric and prenatal care, I appreciate and thank everyone who has helped me along the journey. I love taking care of pregnant women and then their newborns, and as they grow into babies, then toddlers, then preschool and school age kids, then teenagers, then they get their driver’s license and then they go to college… It’s a wonderful thing being able to help so many families (and now animals!).
As for my next goal …. I have already completed three triathlons this season with two more planned, plus I have another Ragnar Relay (the Bourbon Chase) in October. I’m also eyeing something else (let’s say it’s an academic challenge), so once that becomes more of a reality and I’m ready to tackle it (or at least talk about it), I’ll let you know. In the meantime…what do you think it is??….
