Have you ever been hypnotized? Do you want to be hypnotized?

Have you ever been hypnotized? Do you want to be hypnotized? It’s something I’ve been thinking about lately and had a consult with a local hypnotist not too long ago (link at end of this post), so I wanted to share my thoughts.

Hypnosis = the induction of a state of consciousness in which a person apparently loses the power of voluntary action and is highly responsive to suggestion or direction. Its use in therapy, typically to recover suppressed memories or to allow modification of behavior by suggestion, has been revived but is still controversial.

I remember back in college I played Division 1 lacrosse and I was a very inconsistent player. One day/game I’d play as an All-American and the next day I’d play as if I were new to the game. I think these days they call that ADD — as I was unable to concentrate and be consistent. So my coach sent me to a local hypnotist (how cool is that?!?). I remember sitting in this room talking to this guy and while I can’t remember everything we talked about, I do remember at the end of our chat he said something along the lines of “in a minute I’m going to count to three and when I do you will come out of hypnosis” and then he counted and boom I was back. I was SO FREAKED OUT! I just thought we were there chatting, I had no idea I was under hypnosis until I came out of it, which is when I realized I was.

I went back the following week and was so nervous about it, I thought about it hard (stayed in my conscious mind) and never allowed myself to be hypnotized. So that was it. Two sessions, done. One successful and one not successful. I went on that season to play and ended up 2nd team All New England, and I wonder had I had more focus and consistency, how much better would I have been? I’ll never know.

So zoom ahead 30 years or so and here I am back at it – sort of. I’m still trying to figure out IF I want to go through with it, IF I will allow myself to be hypnotized, and trying to figure out how to find the time to do it (or maybe I should say finding time to make it a priority). Without getting into detail, I’m interested in changing some habits – habits that I call bad habits – and am looking for hypnosis to help me.

So many people have had success with weight loss, quitting smoking, overcoming phobias & fears (plus many more things) with the use of hypnosis. Have you? If not, do you want to try it? Are you struggling to quit smoking or make some other lifestyle change? If so, maybe hypnosis can help. I believe it can, if you make the commitment and if YOU believe it can. It would be worth looking into.

The man I met with is Jorgen Hansen of Atlanta Hypnotherapy. Give him a call. Send him an email. Tell him I told you about him (and don’t worry, he won’t tell me you called, it’s all confidential with him). I do think it works and is worth your time. If you have questions, feel free to ask me about it further.

Running & Chiropractic

I finally did it.  It’s been 8 months. Eight long months of doing things different. An MRI, x-rays, 4 PRP injections, physical therapy, at home strength training, swimming, stretching, yoga, walking & hiking. Many of you know I have been a lifelong runner, it started in high school and hasn’t really stopped until now. So […]

Hydrocephalus in dogs

I wasn’t sure if I should write about this, since I’m mad, aggravated and sad at the same time. I’m also fairly private, there are certain personal things I just don’t talk about. I like to keep the office upbeat, healthy and fun. But Loka has become such a big part of the office, so […]

Important vs. Urgent

I was talking to someone earlier this month about how I balance out my life, and I kind of chuckled, because sometimes I just don’t think there’s any balance. And can you really balance a dozen or so high priority things?  Or is it a shuffle?  On my high priority list is managing the office, […]
