Running and Chiropractic
Last week I went out for a 16-mile training run (yes that’s part of training for a marathon) and I ran on some trails, which is my favorite place to run. Instead of avoiding cars and traffic lights, you are avoiding deer, squirrels, rocks, and roots. It is much more peaceful than the roads, and easy to get “lost” in time, thus a 16 mile run seems easier than being in traffic.
During this run, there were a few times where I stumbled on roots and almost fell down. Whenever that happens, it’s pretty much a clue to myself that I have to get adjusted. Sound crazy? You see, my left foot just wasn’t coming up enough causing it to get caught on roots and rocks more easily. So, I’d stumble and catch myself and keep on running. It never happens with my right foot, just the left side.
On Friday I got my feet adjusted and you could see an immediate difference in how my foot was moving. Prior to the adjustment, it was a little restricted and afterwards, all of that was removed. I probably should have got adjusted before the run to save me from stumbling, but it was effective either way.
Chiropractic and running go very well together. Yes I am biased, but anyone who runs needs to include chiropractic care as part of their training program. It will help your body be much more efficient, prevents injuries, improves performance, allows the nerves to flow to the muscles and organs so much better, and can help prevent stumbling on roots! If you don’t run, chiropractic can still help your body in so many ways. Ask us about it sometime.
More later, gotta run….
