ADHD — a biological neurological disorder?
“In the United States, at least 9% of school-aged children have been diagnosed with ADHD, and are taking pharmaceutical medications. In France, the percentage of kids diagnosed and medicated for ADHD is less than .5%. How come the epidemic of ADHD—which has become firmly established in the United States—has almost completely passed over children in France?”
That quote is from a recent article I read in Psychology Today (click here to read it). Here in the USA, we tend to think it’s a biological disorder, something that has to be controlled with chemicals/medications. In France, it’s controlled by looking at what’s causing the behavorial problem by looking at their social context. Two totally different viewpoints on what’s causing the ADHD.
I personally tend to agree with the French; it is not something that should be controlled with medications. However we live in a society where drugs are the answer to our problems, and that just isn’t right. That leads to even more problems.
Feel free to contact me and I’ll be happy to explain more of my perspective, and why chiropractic care, whole food nutrition & supplements, and brain exercises can actually help a child with ADHD; and why they shouldn’t be put on medications.
