Massage Therapy … for the mind, body and family
Massage Therapy can compliment your quest for optimum health here at Active Life Chiropractic. At this time, we have one therapist in the office on Friday mornings and another that has her own business in our office other days of the week. We are currently looking for a new massage therapist to join our team (so please send us an email if interested).
There are many benefits to massage, including decreased stress, increased circulation and flexibility, and an overall general sense of feeling better! In addition, there are extraordinary benefits to massage when taken in regular ‘doses’. Professionals at the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami explain the more massage you get, the greater benefits you reap, including:
• Relieve migraine pain
• Release endorphins—amino acids that work as the body’s natural painkiller
• Improve the condition of the body’s largest organ—the skin
• Lessen depression and anxiety
• Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow—the body’s natural defense system.
Taking part in regularly-scheduled care can play a huge part in how healthy you’ll be and how youthful you’ll remain with each passing year. Budgeting time and money for bodywork at consistent intervals is truly an investment in your health. Massage is one of the best-known remedies for stress. Reducing stress gives you more energy and improves your outlook on life. Massage can also relieve many types of muscle tightness, from a short-term muscle cramp to chronically tight neck and shoulders.
There are different types of massage available here are Active Life Chiropractic, including sports massage, prenatal massage, deep tissue massage, neuromuscular massage, lymphatic drainage & more:
Deep Tissue Massage:
Deep tissue massage is designed to reach the deep portions of the thick muscle fibers. Its purpose is to loosen the fibers of the muscles and release both toxins and deeply held patterns of tension. It is a slow process and the pressure is deeper and focused on the area of tension and discomfort. Deep tissue massages is good for people with chronic pain, muscle tension or spasms. This type of massage requires communication throughout the session with the therapist and client as to how “deep” the therapist should go.
Sports Massage:
Sports massage is also designed to reach the deep portions of muscle fibers and to allow an athlete to perform better, both before and after competition. Its purpose is to loosen muscle fibers and release toxins, which can help an athlete recover faster after a hard workout. Sports massage prior to competition can rub out tension and knots, allowing the athlete to go into their performance with less muscle stress and strain.
Neuromuscular Massage (NMT)
Neuromuscular massage utilizes specific massage therapy including pressure of trigger points to recover from acute and chronic pain syndromes, and for rehabilitation of injuries. This approach brings about a balance between the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. It enhances the functions of joints, muscles, and movement. NMT uses trigger point therapy and ischemic compression to relax muscle spasms. Again, communication between the therapist and client throughout the session is needed to make sure the client is comfortable with the pressure.
Prenatal Massage
Pregnancy massage relieves tensions and aches caused by the extra weight gain from the baby, and the shift in the center of gravity to the body. Pregnancy massage is wonderful for relieving headaches, alleviating morning sickness, reducing fatigue, stress, backaches and leg cramps, along with enhancing sleep, and preparing the pelvic muscles for the birth process. Pregnant clients will be positioned strictly side-lying and your body will be supported with pillows. Swedish strokes are the primary modality during this session. A minimum of 60 minutes is needed due to positioning with pillows.
Relaxation Massage (Swedish)
Swedish massage is the most commonly offered and best known type of massage. It uses a firm but gentle pressure to improve the circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improve flexibility and creates relaxation. This type of massage employs long, gliding strokes, kneading of individual muscles and other light techniques. Swedish massage provides the lightest touch and is considered more of a relaxation massage.
Chair Massage (currently on hold)
A chair massage is a brief five to ten minute massage in which you are fully clothed. Chair massages are done in a special portable chair designed to relax you while you are sitting down. Often times they are performed just prior to your adjustment.
Make yourself comfortable and always allow for relaxation time prior to and after your session. Drink plenty of fluids following your massage and congratulate yourself for making the decision to compliment your Chiropractic care with the art of massage!
